Concept Designs - Tabletop Miniatures

"I don't dislike to be alone"
Ingmar Bergman

What would you do, if you had plenty of spare time and wouldn’t have to worry too much about economic issues? Well, most of the people would like to travel the world and spend time with their friends (which is not such a bad idea), but I would love to create my own, miniature cities and other fantasy sceneries like those from tabletop RPG games. Okay, maybe I would also travel here and there...

True, I don’t have time for creating physical models, painting them and building fantasy lands of them, but lately, I had (again!) an opportunity to work on concept designs for a company producing such 3D models. Their Kickstarter campaign has just ended and, considering how successful it was, I can guess, that there are quite a lot people interested in spending hours and days on building their miniature worlds and probably even fight battles there. The only difference is, that they actually HAVE time for that 馃槉

To the point! My task was to design ships, a little bizarre harbor city buildings, and various scenery objects for “lost tribes”. Below you can see, among others, a boathouse, a navigator’s guild, a port tavern, a governor’s mansion, a wizard’s tower, a shaman’s hut and tribal tree houses.

I hope that all the backers will have fun with these sceneries!

Miniature Houses

Studying architecture certainly has its advantages: weight loss, adaptation to a small amount of sleep, acquiring some skills in designing architectural objects etc. Today I'll focus on the third aspect: designing architectural objects.

Recently I'm designing Winterdale - a fantasy, medieval land (which means in practice that I'm preparing concepts of various miniature buildings for Printable Scenery ).

Designs you can see below are a base for 3D modeling guys. They, in turn, are making models ready for printing on 3D printers. Honestly, I sympathize with them. I felt a little bit guilty when I was adding all the tiny, fancy details on paper. But the ultimate goal  is to give maximum fun while painting the models and to please the eye after that, right?

They are created for tabletop RPG games...or for decorating shelves. Personally I really like to watch tabletop miniatures, even if I don't have too many opportunities to play.

That's all for now, but expect more :)

Computer Game - Buildings Designs

"Can fifteen years of imaginary training really be put to use? Apparently, it can."
"Oldboy", the movie

Long, long time ago(which means in November last year) I got a proposition of working on building designs for a computer role play game in a fantasy style. Perfectly for me! Floor plans, cross sections, thinking on proper construction systems - that's something directly related with my education. On the other hand the subject - buildings for diverse humanoids from various civilizations - was perfectly matched with my interests.
Projects were (and still are being) developed for a spanish studio Tenth Dimension and their game "Isoland". Maybe you'll hear about it one day :D.

Dawno, dawno temu (tzn. w listopadzie zesz艂ego roku) dosta艂am propozycj臋 pracy nad projektowaniem budynk贸w do komputerowej gry RPG w stylu fantasy. Idealnie dla mnie! Rzuty kondygnacji, przekroje, opracowywanie odpowiednich uk艂ad贸w konstrukcyjnych  - to co艣 bezpo艣rednio zwi膮zanego z moim wykszta艂ceniem. Z kolei tematyka , a wi臋c budynki dla rozmaitych cz艂ekopodobnych stworze艅 z r贸偶nych cywilizacji, trafi艂a idealnie w m贸j obszar zainteresowa艅.
Projekty zosta艂y zrobione (i wci膮偶 s膮 opracowywane) dla hiszpa艅skiego studia Tenth Dimension, do gry "Isoland". Mo偶e kiedy艣 o niej us艂yszycie :D.

1. House designs for a race called Queronts which lives in volcanic areas. It's a strong though not very sophisticated race with some dose of magic skills. Houses are made of material which is easily accessible there, namely basalt blocks which can be connected with acid-resistant steel (volcanic vapours can be quite corrodent). Small openings, simple form and even more simply construction. More "advanced" houses are covered with magic runes.

1. Projekt dom贸w dla rasy Queront贸w zamieszkuj膮cej tereny wulkaniczne. To silna i do艣膰 ma艂o zaawansowana technicznie rasa z pewnymi zdolno艣ciami magicznymi. Ma艂e otwory w 艣cianach, niewyszukana forma i prosta konstrukcja. Bardziej "zaawansowane" domostwa s膮 pokryte magicznymi runami.

2. Military building for the same race. Large, rough stone blocks and openwork steel elements. The building itself consist of stone cubes surrounding hexagonal training court. The whole complex of buildings is sheltered with a high palisade and a moat filled with liquid lava. The gatehouse also makes it difficult to break through (hopefully).

2. Budynek wojskowy dla tej samej rasy. Du偶e, nieobrobione bloki kamienne oraz a偶urowe stalowe elementy.  Sam budynek sk艂ada si臋 z kamiennych kubik贸w otaczaj膮cych sze艣ciok膮tny plac do 膰wicze艅. Ca艂y kompleks os艂oni臋ty jest wysok膮 palisad膮 oraz fos膮 z p艂ynn膮 law膮. Przez budynek bramny te偶 nie 艂atwo si臋 przedrze膰 (miejmy nadziej臋).

3. The main building on the mining platform - I've got serious problems with devising shorter name - any ideas? According to plan the building was meant to develop during the game: the more workers - the higher habitable tower, the more resources- the more magazines and treatment tools.  Narrow stairs, which create a slit in a simple form of the main building, lead to a portal on the roof.

Na dachu budynku znajduje si臋 portal, do kt贸rego prowadz膮 w膮skie schody stanowi膮ce szczelin臋 w prostej bryle budynku.

4. Various tools for  processing resources. Devising of how it all should work took me quite a lof of time but thankfully there is an Internet!

4. Rozmaite urz膮dzenia do obr贸bki surowc贸w. Ca艂kiem sporo czasu zaj臋艂o mi obmy艣lenie, jak to wszystko ma dzia艂a膰, ale na szcz臋艣cie Internet bywa niesamowicie pomocny!

As far as I know 3D models haven't been done yet and I'd really love to see them... I'm affraid that it'll take a lot of time before the game will be finished (as it usually happens in case of games) but luckily I can present  you my sketches right now.
